OUTERSPACE BEDTIME RACE!

Blast over to the bookstore to pick up your copy of OUTERSPACE BEDTIME RACE! This is my friend’s, Rob Sanders, third picture book with Random House. Rob wrote this “bedtime” story to read to his nephews. It is filled with humorous fun facts about the planets and beautifully illustrated.Teachers will love using this book in the classroom, too.

Rob is a writing teacher in Hillsborough County, Florida. BUT, he is friend and mentor to all the SCBWI (Society of Children Book Writers and Illustrators) in this tri-county region. For the past few years, he put together a monthly workshop, bringing published authors and editors to share their creativity, inspiration, and share their writing journey. This summer, Rob will be presenting a Picture Book Workshop at the SCBWI Orlando 2015 Conference. Sign-Up!

More ABOUT ME!

I grew up in the suburbs of Long Island, New York. Carefree afternoons were about swimming in my pool with my imaginary friends- the mermaids or other Olympic contenders. I can still here the Mr. Softee ice cream truck’s bells ringing, calling everyone to come out to eat. While parents talked, every kid on the block joined in the nightly games of kickball.

Every summer our family journeyed North to the tiny town of Warrensburg, New York. These were the best times of my life. Every night my summer time friends and me walked into town to eat Stewart’s ice cream. My favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip!

My love for books began in second grade in Mrs. Brown’s class. She read our class several books about life on a kibbutz. We even went on a field trip to a real working farm. That day was magical. I milked a cow, collected chicken eggs, and picked a pumpkin. After our adventure Mrs. Brown had us write a creative essay. I was HOOKED!!

By the time I got to Mrs. Compares’ class in fourth grade, I loved to imagine the different types of houses people lived in, the clothes they wore, and the food they ate. In Social Studies that year, we spent our time reading biographies about famous Americans. I helped Daniel Boone chop his way through the back woods of Kentucky to carve the Cumberland Gap. I assisted Clara Barton, Chief Nurse of the Civil War, to wrap bandages around injured soldiers. These adventures unleashed a flood of ideas and a love of story telling.

In High School, I decided to become a Psychologist and earned Bachelors of Psychology from Adelphi University. Next, I went to Brooklyn College to get a Masters of Science.

While juggling the demands of being a Teacher, I attended the Institute of Children’s Literature and earned a Certificate in Writing For Children and Teenagers. I also began driving into Manhattan to take classes in NYU’s Screenwriting Program.

I am a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and Chairperson of the Clearwater Critique Group.

I now live on the Gulf of Mexico in sunny, warm, snow less Florida. I love walking along the beach, swimming, and watching orange red sunsets. I have a husband, a wonderful family, a dog named Brandy, and a Parrot named Q. I enjoy traveling to historical sites throughout the United States.
